Drew Mason playing drums to Express by Christina Aguilera from the movie Burlesque.
I wanted to do this song because of the grooving drums. It was heavy on drums yet left space for a drumset to fit in. Also because my girlfriend's family wanted me to :) It was a lot of fun to play, but by the third take, my hands were tired! This song was done in one take, hence the mistakes :)
For the first time, I'm really proud of my drum mixing sound. If I could do anything else, I would have given the cymbals a little more, but I don't want to just boost the highs in the post equalizing, so I'll leave them where (in my opinion) they're a little quiet.
I ust the 6 track analog mixer seen in the bottom right corner, but I only have 5 channels because channel 3 has shorted out. I have a microphone in the bass drum next to the batter head, one between the floor toms, one between the rack toms, one at the snare, and an overhead mic about two feet above my head.
I've always had trouble getting a balanced snare sound with the punch of the batter head WITH the snare at the same time with one mic, but I think I have an OK balance by putting the mic at the air hole of my drum. Sound silly, but it really gives a nice crack with some sustain at the same time.
Mixing is a constant learning process, and any words of wisdom or constructive criticism are kindly welcomed :)
Thanks for watching!

@NeonShrew The hihats and china are both ZBT plus, and the main crash is a 17" A custom. I also have a 16" A custom projection crash to the left (my left) of that one. the rest are not zildjians, although all the zildjians are my favorites!
