Recorded June 3rd 2010 during rehearsals for the new album "Black Swans & Wormhole Wizards"

=========================================================================

I was in an accident and have been having difficulty getting my left hand back up to speed and MPHGT arpeggio has gone out the window. So I asked Joe to guide me through Power Cosmic, checking if there was anything I was missing that might help me "get it back"

Here's how that moment turned out - it was amazingly insightful as usual, and fascinating, and of course Joe made it a lot of fun

  • I had always thought the notes on this piece were sweep picked... that's the way I had learned it, haha, oops. Either way you still can strain your arm muscles if you're not careful, I sure did.

    I think I will try it again with tapping this time. It's such a beautiful melody and fun to play. It's worth losing an arm over, lol.

  • @xstohl as you can see, it's joe doing one of his amazing techniques. Good luck with changing how you play it, could you post it perhaps both ways?

  • where you find this arpeggio? what song? or is the same from the mystical potato head groove thing?

  • @diazluisdiaz bane of hit it on the head there... it was also given away as a lesson before it was released and they used part of the original recording for the record

  • This song is one of most daring things a person can attempt to play at a guitar. Joe´s a genius!

  • @KingTabor totally genius - on ghosts, check out how he instantly plays what I sing at the right pitch etc. It was only afterwards I spotted that

  • Well the essence of this lesson for me was "manage your low end" :0). Thanks so much for giving us a glimpse into the day you had with Joe, it just reinforces what a lovely bloke he is, a natural teacher, interested in people and especially guitar people.

  • @RONDOC68 thanks

  • @xstohl he does the same thing in the mystical potato head thing...there's a bunch of vids showing it ;)

  • @JoeSatrini Well, it's the same fingerings except you're sweep picking instead of tapping. I had learned it by ear by slowing down the music and comparing notes, then wrote it down. I didn't realize it was tapped until watching this video.

    I'll try and find my notes, although I'm sure you can find the tabs for it if you search the internet, just sweep pick instead of tap. Either way anyone attempting this should start out slow and watch out for muscle strain.

  • @JoeSatrini Amazing! I put here one version of 'Power' (full song). Still not 100% but is a work in progress and a lifetime challenge. Pls check it if you have time. Thanks!

  • @tomkaymusic777 completely agree

  • @BaneOfXistence4 thanx man

  • @diazluisdiaz- "The Power Cosmic 2000 Part 2" is the name of the song from the Engines of Creation album.
