Recently I had serious trouble with a Mini-ITX "industrial grade" mainboard from a Taiwanese maker-it was returned 3 times to the distributor within 2 months or so despite being very expensive. Currently I am using a used Samsung PC which consumes much more power but is 100% rock solid-I am more than satisfied with it. Besides, all handphones are made in Korea only.

It seems that Taiwan's future strategy will be that of benchmarking Costa Rica-here the problem is that Costa Rica has a stronger position in the semiconductor industry than Taiwan. Former Eastern Bloc and other emerging nations such as new oil exporters and Panama etc. will soon overtake Taiwan. Its future military power is likely to be reduced to that similar to a Gendarmerie or maybe former Yugoslav TO units. Taiwan's total lack of industrial capabilities is SHOCKING.

European and Israeli companies are much smaller but they differ from Taiwanese companies that they have capabilities that differentiate themselves from all others.Korea invested aggressively into industry. Now Taiwan is failing even in its last existing international product, that is, lightweight digital appliances.The abandoning of nuclear powerplants will even more firmly seal its already lacking future. Korea will have 3 dozen nuclear powerplants.

All Taiwan suffers is 100% own fault. It did nothing to develop a strategically significant industry base like Korea despite isolation was obvious and it had advantageous headstart such as gold reserves and past UNSC member status. Instead, it went the merchant economy' way and now has no more competitive products. The common misperception in Korea is that Taiwan failed due to lack of large companies;this is not true.
