This fascinating 1958 documentary titled "How film is made", that documents the production process and birth of photographic and cinematic film, was initially uncovered as part of a heritage in the Netherlands. Although its exact source and purpose are as of yet still unknown, it may have been an instructional film for new employees at Kodak's factories world wide, and was probably used as a promotional film for the general public as well.

  • Wonderful !

  • I am the 44,444 viewer. wow

  • 1 person has no idea how cool film is

  • gotta watch how SD/CF card is made man

  • Was greatly disturbed to see how animals are slaughtered to make the film emulsion. Really happy I don't need to use film any more!

  • At 1:03 this movie says film is made with 4 layers. The motion picture negative and Portra films of today have 14 to 15 layers...each with a specific purpose. At 4:34, the roll they are removing is no more than 2000 ft long. Today's roll's are 6,000 to 10,000 ft. long. The processes of making silver nitrate and emulsions are much more clean and automatic than what was employed 53 years ago.

  • after watching this, i immediately went out and sold my D700 to buy an M6.

  • @d3xt3rgangstar I laughed quite a bit when I saw that someone else was thinking the same thing as me. Man, the fucking irony.

  • @fuurious especially hipsters that use poloroids.
