K10 arrives to spell K26 so she can have a short break before she returns to incubate the egg for the night. She's a bit reluctant to get up, so K10 does a little nestorating while waiting. When she does get up, she has a white feather stuck to her chest. When K10 goes to pick it off, K26 takes offense and tells him to back off. His mission was accomplished nonetheless and the feather floats away. K26 soon follows only to return a few minutes later and lets him know she's taking over....NOW! He doesn't waste much time getting up and taking off, so she can resume caring for the egg she laid 2 days ago. With any luck, she should be laying egg #2 tomorrow.
These eagles are part of the ongoing restoration project by IWS. You can read about the struggle to reintroduce America's symbol, the Bald Eagle, to the Channel Islands as well as watch this miracle of nature via live eagle-cam by going to http://www.iws.org and clicking first on 'interactive' and then choosing one of the nests to view on Catalina Island and Santa Cruz Island or go to: http://z7.invisionfree.com/CHIL_EagleCAM/index.php?act=idx
