Passage : 2 Samuel 21: 15-22
In this scene, David is at the end of his life - old and weak. His first battle with giants was as a young man of 17 against Goliath. Ever wondered why David picked 5 pebbles? He was preparing to knock off Goliath *and* his brothers. The brothers show up now in this battle at the wick end of David's life. But he was faint and weak. We think that the longer we serve the Lord, the smoother our life will be but here we see that David faced 1 giant at 17 and 4 by the end of his life.

1. v16: Ishbibenob (I dwell above) - the giant of Pride.
Pride of life (I Jn 2.16).. pride over my kids, my job, my family, my house..
- attacked when David was faint
- Heavy attack (spear weighed 300 shekels).. if we're not prepared or aware, we may not recover from this.

Slayed by Abhishai (shorter than everyone)
A midget slayed a giant. Humility.

2. v18: Saph (Two minded) - the giant of Hypocrisy
Wanting to appear more than we are

Slayed by Sibbechai (corpse or like dead)
Someone who does not care what people think and is dead to their opinions. Focus only on God's opinion of us.

3. v19 : Unnamed brother of Goliath - the giant of Gossip
Irreverent, ungoldly, malicious slander

Slayed by Elhanan (Grace of God)
The grace of God shuts our mouth when people slander and malign and criticise. God, give us the grace to go through situations.

4. v20 : Grasping Giant
Giant of 6 fingers and 6 toes.. has a strong grip. Someone who is grasping for authority, accumulating power for himself. Will not yield to authority of church, voice of the Spirit.

Slayed by Jonathan (giving to Jehovah)
Give your worries, anxieties, stresses to God, Confess your sins, give them all to God and then rest. He will take care.

God, we pray you make us more like you each day and guard and equip us to meet our giants. AMEN
