  • This Guy Mark Massey is a BJJ instructor under Carlos Gracie Jr. And i see a Gracie Barra logo and a brazilian flag on the wall.

and ive seen this technique on a BJJ seminar.

But why is this Kosen Judo?

  • I have a Nidan rank in Judo, as well as the Brown in BJJ. I was given the nickname "Kosen Judo" from fellow Judoka because of my passion for grappling. This technique was filmed after a Judo class at our school. I teach Judo and BJJ on different nights.

  • Thanks for the answer. I have a question more for you. How is with leglocks in kosen judo? Are leglocks legal in kosen judo?

  • Leglocks are not legal in Judo or Kosen Judo, only Sambo and higher level BJJ.

  • my sensei came from japan and started teaching in Canada. :D

  • Kosen Judo and BJJ are very similar, except Kosen Judo has different rules on the mat.

  • This is not Kosen judo. Why? Becuase there are no kosen schools outside of Japan. Don't be fooled by the word kosen. Kosen in japanese just means technical school. Don't be fooled into thinking that there are 2 styles of judo as well. There is only one judo and that's judo. The words kosen judo is used to discribe judo as practiced by japanese technical schools. Just like Iowa wrestling is used by the Hawkeyes. Just regular wrestling.

  • there are 2 types of judo olympic judo with the many different rule changes has morphed into something that is very different from the judo of 50 years ago .when i was first learning judo 35 years ago it cetainly had a greater emphasis on self defense, just an opinion

  • i would simply beat the attackers ass putting him in a hold only bruce lee could attempt to escape from

  • @Samboussr The Title says Judo: Massey demonstrates a Flying Choke with Subs. He already said he have a Nidan rank in Judo and a brown in BJJ. Don't be silly to say this is just BJJ when the poster himself already said he is from Judo and cross trains in BJJ also.

  • @judofan I thought he already said KosenJudo was a nick given by his friends because of his love for grappling. I also thought the Video Title has no mention of the word Kosen =/.

  • what you call that!?

  • @MrPotatoesLatkie wrong answear! Kosen Judo means, Superior Judo Newaza.

and this gyu on video, has nothing to do with Kosen Judo schools in japan, this is just BJJ.

  • @mateah This is BJJ, this has nothing to do with Kosen Judo! this guy on video has only train in BJJ, I`ve been ask some Kosen Judo School in Japan, nobody know this guy! please sir stop to use the name of Kosen Judo, you are not kosen judoka teacher!

  • @kosenjudo dont call your self Kosen Judo, your are not from Kosen Judo schools, and by the way, Legs Lock are allow in Kosen Judo.

  • Kosen means a type of technical school in Japan, not a specific style of Judo. It's just an emphasis on Ne Waza. It should be called Ne Waza, or grappling oriented Judo.

  • kosen judo is a particular form of judo that emphatises the ne waza (ground techniques), wich are also very practised in BJJ.

As long as BJJ is very inspired in judo and has a big ground work, it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish one from the other...AND: kosen judo allows leglocks....the biggest difference is that kosen judo does not teach spine locks which are used (not in competition) in BJJ.....
