@TheEcobox Check out aquaponics, it's basically what you describe, it won't be more of a hassle in fact it will make it easier to keep the tank clean, while automatically providing everything the plants need. All your systems need is a few simple adjustments. On the top half build a tub filled with hydroton clay that the water can filter through and you've got a "growbed" that will grow the plants on it's own. Find videos of "flood and drain" setups and search the term auto siphon.
