Had to reload...
Story of Seaswirl rebuild and failure of Automatic Transmission while towing boat over Pali Hwy.
The AutoTran failed because the manufacturer thought it would be smart to put an aluminum planetary gear into the otherwise "all-steel" drive assembly (all the components that actually handle torque). I think it is called "Managed Obsolence", putting some weak part into the product to ensure (predictably) that the consumer will have a failure and required repair services. In this case, it led to a very dangerous situation. The transmission oil shot out of the tranny-vent onto the exhaust manifold, where it caught fire. The fuel line (gasoline delivery to carb) was right next to manifold, and the back of truck had gallons of Acetone and Resin.....luckily we extinguish the fire before it became a "chariot of fire" putting other vehicles in danger.

The Seaswirl is nearly completed, and I am reading a book on Tuna, which is really firing me up to get "Out There" on the big blue yonder and DIVE and FISH for these magnificent animals

  • Bumber about the truck transmission. Good thing that you are knowledgable about that stuff. Yet another hurdle you've overcome. Boat is looking awesome. Keep up the great work and stay committed. Good times lie ahead :)

Glad to see your boat project is coming to fruition. As for the truck towing the boat, well, I'm sure you know what the F.O.R.D. acronym stands for: Found On Road Dead :)

  • You do very nice fiberglass work. whoever got hold of my old boat before I owned it did a hack job

  • Yogi,

"you know you're doomed.....gunning to put you on their dinner table"... LMAO, oh goodness, succintly put... yeah, happy not to be a Tuna (esp. Blue Fin).

Why don't we (humans) learn? Didn't we almost wipe out Pacific Whales (really close).. and now we have to repeat same with Tuna. Actually, I am also trying to get into the conservation of Tuna... it's complicated because Blue Fin don't stay put in anyone EEZ... more on it later.

    Mahalo for watching, aloha, UC

  • great video - nice boat fixes.. Too bad about the Tuna, you know you're doomed to when you've got 127 million hungry Japanese gunning to put you on their dinner table.

    Aloha

  • might save me money on bat guano......i can smell the buds now......heh.
