This is a half size (1/4?) size 2 cylinder horseless carriage or steam car built by Robert Grosse Sr. in Saskatoon, Canada. It was Completed in approximately 1990. Details of the car are highlighted here for the purpose of showing interested parties how such a thing can be laid out and built from scratch. The wheels came from old wheel chairs but most everything else was fabricated from scrap. This car last operated about 10 years ago. With a few afternoons of TLC it could easily run again (and I plan to do so in memory of my dad at some point in the near future). It is not shown running here, although It can be seen actually running momentarily in the home made pipe organ video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=egU55aEzslo

  • is this a kit, or complet ground up build, can you make a technical video about details of parts and what is used to make this car?

  • nope not a kit; it was a from-scratch build. dad jotted pictures and calculations down on scrap paper but never kept a journal unfortunately. the scraps of paper were tossed out when he did not need them anymore (he was simply a basement model engineer hobbiest). I can send you some higher res pictures of it, if it would help. The wheels are from old wheel chairs. He got the transmission out of a very old washing machine. Otherwise everything built from scratch. Dad passed away in late 2006.

  • looks well put together, thanks for the video, makeing one of my own, hoepfuly have it done soon, Just wish i could hear that bad boy run, Anyways thanks for the video

  • thank you. yes one of these years i should spend some time restoring it a little. It has not run in over 10 years. it needs some tlc...It needs new air tubes for the wheels...the boiler would have to be cleaned and pressure tested, etc. My 9 year old son would love to drive it, as i did when i was young. My dad, the guy who designed and built it, passed away in 2006. i have fond memories of driving it in parades etc when i was young. heat from the boiler cooked my seat a few times LOL!

  • but does it run?

    whats the 1/4 mile time???

maybe install a turbo and some fuzzy dice!

  • well it last ran about 10 years ago. i would want to pressure test the boiler before trying it again.needs new tires too..1/4 mile? Probably About 2 minutes! LOL!

  • @theegr1 So sorry for your loss. Your dad would be happy for you to continue his work. I can relate, my father passed away in 2002, and he was a electronics and mechanical engineer.

  • wheres the pot to hold the steamed veggies

  • funny, instead of going through all that work converting and wasting propane to heat water for steam, it could've just used propane and been more powerful and more efficient. But for the fun of it, this is cool.

  • you need a trailer on it with a fire in the back, then you could run for longer

  • That car looks like a beast! How does it drift?

  • Nice.

  • tinker much?

  • Must be a lucky kid you got there , :) good for him , Nice car tho very good job making it , Sir I salute you

  • @Utubepoop1231 no sorry. other steam car videos did

  • turbo it!
