CINCINNATI (Jeff Hirsh) -- A woman hit by a Police during a chase Sunday night remains in the hospital Monday afternoon. Cincinnati's Police Chief spoke about the accident. Local 12's Jeff Hirsh has the latest information. The incident occurred Saturday evening at 7:19p.m. Officer Orlando Smith was responding to an officer needs assistance run, which is one of the highest priority runs. He was traveling down Vine St. in Over-The-Rhine when he hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street. The Pedestrian was 36-year-old Natalie Cole. She was not in a cross walk at the time of the accident. The police car did have a cruiser cam that was working. However, just before impact the cruiser cam stopped functioning. The Police Chief said because it was an older cruiser cam these things do happen when the car is going fast and bumping around. At this time that is the only explanation they have.Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said, He was operating his cruiser with due regard and reasonable. Based on what weve seen here at this table, my command staff and myself, we are convinced that at this point in the investigation that the officer was operating his cruiser in a reasonable fashion.Natalie Cole is now listed in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
