Tensioning Knot

The tensioning knot is the one I use to tie the strands of my whips to the rope machine. It is also useful anytime that quick tension is needed and a truckers hitch is too much or the distance is too short. Tie a noose in the line and snug it up then a slippery half hitch locks it in place.

Dear Nawataipan,

What happens to the knot if it is heavily loaded? Especially when the rope is wet, can it still be untied easily?

Since the knot is slippery it can be untied after loading but no rope is untied easily if it is wet.  If loading is expected adding a calf hitch in the loop is a good idea. If that tightens up, it will increase the difficulty in untying. I use this knot frequently to support a moderate load without difficulty.

Please, Mr., show me the standing part, so I can reproduce this knot

The standing part is what I end up holding in my left hand. This knot is tied by making a slip knot then taking the running side and making a second jamming half hitch. It is quite secure if and only if it is set up correctly.

That looks like a really useful knot I'll have to practice it and use it when i get the opportunity. I have used the over head knot on the bite a few times but usually try to refrain from using it but the extra bit on the end makes it useful.
