  • People make noise because it is in reponse to a good performance... eastern, african and many other cultures... the audience participates, encourages and shows appreciation of the efforts of the dancer... it is almost just as rude to sit quietly without giving the dancer encouragement... these dances, traditions are from warm cultures ....and it is nice to honor that tradition

  • Ahhhhhhh! *big sigh* SUCH great inspiration!!! she definetely involves you into her feeling, THATs a true artist!

  • I love Olivia, she was one of my first teachers. The noise is called a Zagareet and we LOVE it when it's done. It's a way of saying " HOLY SHIT THATS REALLY FREAKIN COOL" with out saying it. Trust me.

  • O_O so beautiful...

  • Ah, how beautiful! Great lighting too. Thanks for posting!

  • Belly dancing to a Russian song-Brava!

  • lililililith!

It's so nice to watch actual fusion!

  • yes yes its pretty cool

  • Devotchka has performed this song, but it is an old russian folk tune that has been passed down over time.

  • I absolutely agree. As I watched her dance I wished the yipper in the audience would shut the h*ll up! :-)

It's a lovely piece but the audience distracts from it.

  • I don't know about fusion style. I do find it a bit distracting the yip's from the audience because it is a slow piece.

I know dancing for a ethnic audience, they will give Opa's or encouragement vocally. But it is usually during faster upbeat music, where it is clear that audience participation is anticipated. And slower pieces are more interspective and don't encourage audience participation.

  • ..wonderful, unusually, emotional - thanks for this clip
