I don't think Leftists want to bring a caliphate to Europe. Much as with their alliance-of-convenience with the Nazis, they seem to be of the opinion that the Muslims will make useful patsies for pressing theri own interests on people who have thus far otherwise rejected them. By destabilizing European governments, they hope to use their own leverage to gain power. This is what happened in Spain, after all, to help bring the socialists to power.
