slide hammer=brilliant!
-
You also forgot to mention after cutting the excess slide piece to make a 45 degree cut on the bottom side;reduces noise/wear.
-
usually helps to loosen the track

Can you use CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Spray to clean under the hood of a snowmobile?

Silicone isn't going to do much cleaning. I'd spray it all down with a degreaser.. and pressure wash it. Once its clean then spray it all with a silicone to protect everything. Be sure to see our How to summerize a snowmobile video too!

A lot of them have a small line on the edge of them that can act as a "wear indicator" Always to be safe and do it more than not.

I would use the belt that is specific to your sled. But if its negligibly different in size it should be okay. Where does it sit in the secondary, does it rub on the primary when its not engaged? Remember your belt is like a gear, if its not the right one it can hurt performance and clutching.

It really all depends on your riding style, Sled, Suspension, track tension, snow conditions as well as the type of Hyfax you use. Best bet is to look at the line on the edge - gives a good suggestion of life left.
