  • so which one is better, Barbell row or pendlay?

  • @gangkapak That's like asking which is better... chicken or steak? The answer is yes! They are simply different movements. One is not necessarily better than the other. Or, at least, you are likely to get different answers from different people. Each movement results in slightly different recruitment of the muscles in your back. So the best answer is... it depends.

  • What's the difference between this and bent over barbell row?

    Also, very impressive (Y)

  • @LISdafreestyler A traditional barbell row is not as strict a movement. The torso is usually slightly more upright than a Pendlay Row and some hip movement is expected. The result is one can usually use more weight with a barbell row. Different muscle recruitment also.

  • Grip: Overhand. Under VS Over simply results in different muscle recruitment in your arms and back.

Grip width: Go with whatever feels best. Shoulder(ish) grip width is what I use. To wide a grip always made my shoulders feel shitty though.

  • It's not a shrug so much as it is fully relaxing the lats befor performing the next rep.

  • Yea awesome idea! He should also focus on biceps. That's where true strength comes from!

  • Its rare you see someone doing good form on these, nice job :-)

  • Impossible for me to do it like this guy is doing. Im taller and hip doesnt bend as much as his. With straight back, bending from hip, knee i would end up pulling the bar to my chest because my knees are pointing out so much :D Im stretching almost everyday to get more flexibility exrx.net/WeightExercises/BackGeneral/BBBentOverRow.html here are some facts about rowing

  • chupame huevos

  • You're strong as hell. I tried Pendlay rows for the first time today. Only 135x5

  • It looks pretty hard, especially with that amount of weight. Very good form

  • 4 manlets watched this video.

  • Pretty nice, but isn't your torso supposed to stay fixed in the same place throughout the rep? Seeing quite a bit of vertical movement here.

  • @holisticdan

no, the position of the pendlay row is the same as the starting position of the romanian deadlift with your hips really high, but thats no reason to NOT incorporate it into your workout ;-)

  • So I'm still learning, but would you consider the position of the pendlay row the same as the starting position of the typical deadlift stance that Rippetoe might teach? I'm learning his stuff and i want to incorporate this row into my workout.

  • I dont know who named this the Pendlay row, but people have been doing that style of row waaaaaaaaaaaaay before Pendlay came around. Don't get me wrong, Pendlay is cool and all, just never understood why they were called Pendlay rows.
