  • Why did you mount the solar panel under the tree in the shade? Also what do these cost and is there any disadvantage to them only running during the day since heat still gets trapped in your attic even after the sun has gone down. It seems if you had a battery, charge controller and a solar panel you could get this fan to run for a few hours after the sun went down to ensure that your attic was cooled completely. Thoughts?

  • @helloman1976 Thank you for you comments. You can get the fans for about $300 now.

The panel is only blocked a short time by the tree. the cable that came with the fan only reach that far. As for a battery, I wanted to keep costs down and low tech. It actually works great, and I didn't need a battery... even in South Florida!

  • You showed all the easy part. The hard part is not about cutting the gable hole, but rather how to deal with the siding outside of it. How to make sure rain is not going to leak into the house?

  • good helper fans but I wouldnt take your ac fan down,I bought one from homedepot for just over $200.00 after taxes

  • @OK2BeGreen Does the fan have a diode to prevent backflow of electricity to the panel? Because on a windy night the fan might create the 'dynamo effect'.

    Thanks!

    I really appreciate your comments.

The gable fans are also better than a roof panel since no roof hole needs to be opened!

    I really appreciate your comments.

For the panel location, a lot depends on how your home faces and your association (if applicable). I have mine on the east side of my home and it works perfect.

I do not use a plywood backing. The gable has a screen to keep out bugs and the fan direct to the wood frame for support.
