Japanese military officer's bravery in choosing death by harakiri instead of facing the shame of defeat are well documented.Adm. Yamamoto"s decision to do the planning of the Pearl Harbor attack was a matter of choice.He could"ve resigned from his commission and be no part of this world carnage and wouldn't feel ashamed, for it will be an honorable thing to do if that is the dictates of his conscience.His dying by the sword was the whirlwind he reaped for his choice.It was a planned assasination

@duaneburnett are you saying that roosevelt wasn't responsible for creating a scene to make an excuse to fight germany and japan? if anything roosevelt murdered his own citizens and sailors regarding the attack on pearl harbor. read historic accounts. the attack on pearl harbor is a total conspiracy. scholars who make the claim that roosevelt provoked japan into war make a valid claim. the raid on taranto has nothing to do with this.

@ninjastealth86 An interesting theory but an incorrect one. One must remember that prior to Pearl there had only been ONE other aircraft carrier raid . The devastating British raid on Taranto . Which Franklin as well as all other world leaders should not have ignored! Aircraft carrier warfare was completely new,very few world leaders understood it's importance a that time.

024 is on an aircraft carrier the guy pointing at the map is james flatley father of the guy who landed an c130 on an aircraft carrier also he was 00 on yorktown for wake mission the first with f6f hellcats when an young sub LT asked how he reconciled killing with his devout catholicism he said that the japs brought it apon them selves and showed no mercy so were not worthy of it .

And P-38s were the ones that did it. but still Yamamoto RIP.

Did you know that both Isoroku Yamamoto and Admiral Osami Nagano were reluctant to attack the U.S.A. during WW2 but have to obey their superiors? By planning and attacking P.H., both become a "reluctant " enemies of the U.S.A.
Both these men attended Harvard University in the U.S. prior to WW2 ...War is terrible.The choices these men made carry grave consequences.

operation vengeance was such hypocrisy. the roosevelt administration knew that the imperial japanese navy under yamamoto’s command was heading towards pearl harbor due to us naval intel having picked up japanese military codes. with that said washington was responsible for the crimes of letting its servicemen get killed to make an excuse to fight in europe and the pacific.

@SakkyokukaSensei Happy Days indeed.
Did the P-38 pilots, lamphier & Barber have gun camera footage from the mission?
A bit of controversy regarding who actually shot down Yamamoto.... claims and counter claims. Bottom line is brave men like th e Seals of today took out a key enemy for sure!

@TCUNC76 thank you for your comment. It is true that there is some debate about who actually shot down Yamamoto. But in the film I made, I interviewed Tom Lamphier at length and I know that he fired his guns, and saw the smoke immediately after. It is possible that both men fired their guns and hit the plane but at the very least, one of them was Tom Lamphier, an extraordinary character.

In parting, a man is measured by the loyalty of his friends, and the respect of his foes. Yamamoto has both. Then, and Today.
