Each year the Tibetan Nuns Project organizes Jang Gonchoe, a debating event that involves ordained Tibetan nuns from six different nunneries from all over India. Mastering debating is essential to the development of the nuns' skills and confidence, giving them the opportunity to become teachers, leaders, and decision-makers in their communities and in the world at large. For centuries only monks had access to the full range of educational opportunities in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, now nuns are gaining access to the same opportunities.

  • I found this very touching.

  • For those not familiar with the debating style of Tibetan monks and nuns, it is highly stylized. For these young women it is useful in teaching them assertiveness, which many of them lack--you can see their embarrassment, also their smiles and amusement. I Love the beautiful green parrots (?) watching it all.
