Swing Kids - Part 9

In pre-World War II Germany, Swing music becomes the underground movement of young people. Two high school students, Peter Müller and Thomas Berger (played by Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale), attempt to be Swing Kids by night and part of the Hitler Youth by day. As Hitler's grip tightens around these young boys' world, they will finally have to decide where their loyalties lie.

I first watched this movie in prison (yes, prison) in1996. Or 94? Anyway, it really helped me understand the influence that peers have, and about prejudice, and about doing things for people and not really knowing who is who and learning to find out who are REALLY your friends.

I think it helped me make it out alive. (I served 12 years)

My teacher showed us this in German, and I looked down after they called Arvid a cripple or something to do homework. And when I looked up he was dead in a bath tub. :/ and i was like what the fuck happened?

Thomas is an example of what happends when you pretend to be part of the H.J. and be told certain things over and over again. He lives up to the phrase "lie down with dogs you'll get fleas." Let alone murderous dogs that will eat their own kin for the sake of power.
