Script of "Desperate"

JOHN MCCAIN: I guess it was bound to happen. Governor Bush's campaign is getting desperate with a negative ad about me.

The fact is, I'll use the surplus money to fix Social Security, cut your taxes and pay down the debt. Governor Bush uses all the surplus for tax cuts, but not one new penny for Social Security or the debt.

His ad twists the truth like Clinton -- we're all pretty tired of that.

(On screen: John McCain for president; Paid for by McCain 2000)

As president, I'll be conservative and always tell you the truth, no matter what.

  • Hey, it was Clinton that gave us our surplus, McCain. All the GOP did was try to get Bill impeached.

  • Comparing Bush to Clinton! LOL Clinton did a great job, created millions of jobs, longest sustained economic groth! heck, if bush did HALF the job clinton did he would be far more popular.

  • McCain might be a puppet but I can't stop wondering how different things would be if he was ever in the White House.

  • @tubub Man, Powell as VP never even thought of that, I for sure would've voted for that ticket

  • @dostoyevesky12

    I know Man... I know.

The stupidest part of it all is that had he run as his 2000 self he would've had such a better chance to win in 2008. I never got the energizing the party thing, it makes sense for the primary but why the general election? Are people really gonna vote for Obama over Mccain in Texas? Not enough, that's for sure.

He should've run as a reformer with Powell as his VP. He could've won.

  • @Tokopol

People's specific policies change evolve as they evolve, there is nothing wrong with that.

But there is no substantive difference between the McCain of 2000 to 1990 to 1980. But the McCain of 2008 directly contradicts the McCain of 2000.

McCain used to be a Republican in the genuine tradition instead of the newer evangelical, anti-intellectual one.

McCain was a great American, but now he'll be remembered by many as the 2008 candidate who sold his soul to Karl Rove. Tragedy...

  • @dostoyevesky12 There was never an "old McCain". His entire political career is predicated on constantly selling out his persona for something new.

He was different as a congressman, then he changed as a Senator, then he changed again when he ran in 2000. Then he changed yet again when he thought about bailing the party in 2004. Then he changed yet again in preparation for 2008, and then changed again in order to keep his Senate seat in 2010. I don't know which McCain it is now, nor do I care.

  • @wreddon Man I miss the old Mcain before he became a sell out

  • @xukeith33 bush was the WORST preisdent EVER !!!!!!

  • God Bless Bush!

  • @irapedelmo12345 GHWB made the surplus possible.
