Serbian PM: Kosovo agreement can be found

The status of Kosovo continues to overshadow Brussels' efforts to speed up the EU integration of all the Balkan states. Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in February 2008, but Belgrade still considers it a breakaway province. Serbia's Prime Minister, Mirko Cvetkovic, is the man who has to try to resolve that problem. euronews spoke to him.

It's not "Kosovo is Serbia" - but "Kosovo needs Serbia."

Kosovo is nothing and cannot be anything without Serbia.

This interviewer is implying that a precondition for Serbia to join the EU is to "accept" so-called "Kosovo independence."

To do this would mean the EU breaks a promise that "Kosovo independence" recognition is NOT a part of Serbia's assession to the EU.

@ALBOgeurrilla why shouldn't you guys have been required to learn serbian? you were living in SERBIA dumbass. Do hispanics in the United States have to learn english?? of course they do. otherwise you can't get a job you can't make a life. so it was perfectly natural for all albanians to learn serbian. Of course albanians had the option of choosing albanian schools. that was their choice. that's the way it was all the way until 1999.

hey ALBOgeurilla i have a grandma who was born in kosovo, i was in kosovo too, most of my family was there. i disagree that it was ever albainias or that it was a state. what i hate about this is that many people died becuz of it, for no damn reason. you might say "kosovo is albainia or serbia" but honestly its a spec of land compared to our two countries. no wonder others called us terrorists

You just don't understand all of this. I am born in Kosovo. I know how Kosovo was before the war and after. Before the Serbs were ruling Kosovo and after. I know were I talk about. So lets start from scratch. Even now the Albanians in Kosovo can speak Serbian. "Languages crisis"?. All the money Kosovo made in the mines went to Belgrade. None of them came back for making roads, schools... I hope you realize ones!

@ALBOgeurrilla The economy crisis was caused by poor language skills, In yugoslavia, anyone could get a job anywhere, provided he spoke the languge, Including Albanians. And if the Serbs didnt care about Kosovo then they would of let it go. Theres no Serbia without Kosovo, and Kosovo is nothing without Serbia. The only reason Serb troops left the region was if Kosovo remained part of Serbia, and now that treaty has been violated (and most of the world agrees). Kosovo can never be a state.

Every Albanian today can speak Serbian so that's not true what you say. Your arguments aren't right. I go to Kosovo every year. I know what I am talking about.

In the schools it was duty to learn Serbian. Not only in the "what you call so" a economy crisis wich I don't nkow what you are talking about the Albanians couldn't get a job because they were Albanian. That's just a fact. Before the war there were no good roads to go to Kosovo. The serbs themselves didn't care about Kosovo.

@Piewayman I said 90% of kosova is better of serbia. But i a serbs would say it no police would arrest him Maybe beat him up a little. But if we go back 12 years if an albanian would have said kosova is albania the serbian police would have killed him. So once again Kosova Dosent need serbia.

@ALBOgeurrilla Why couldnt they get a job? Well the Autonomous govt of Kosovo stupidly declared Albanian the offical language of the province, unlike the rest of Yugoslavia, where it was Serbian. This language barrier lowered exports into the province and eventually Kosovo was hit by bad times economically. The albanians blamed it on the Serbs and forced them out of the province. with no jobs in Kosovo the Albanians tried to look elsewhere in the country for work, but they couldnt speak serbian.
