Senate Democrats were joined today by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis at a press conference today to call on Republicans to stop blocking unemployment benefits for millions of Americans.

"As Secretary of Labor, I've traveled to places represented by both Democrats and Republicans. In every one of those town and cities, I've spoken with people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. They are in dire need of our help," said Secretary Solis. "For many households with an unemployed worker, unemployment insurance is the only thing that allows them to keep paying the bills and supporting their families as they look for new employment. These Americans are counting on their leaders to stand with them. The clock is ticking, and partisanship must be put aside."

  • @samfrimmel for every job out there, there are 5 people in need of one. THE JOBS AREN'T THERE!

also, every dollar that is put into UE benefits is paid back +61 cents by the people working and by people who found a job after getting UE benefits, not to mention that the bill was PAID FOR.

  • Why give money to the criminal banks and not the citizens that probably provided most of those tax dollars?

  • gop says that we need to keep the rich going ,we dont care what happens too the lower class people ,they say we nedd to help the rich ,so they can support us in the election to run for president

  • You people work harder at looking for handouts, then you do at looking for a job. Our country is bankrupt. The current administration has spent TRILLIONS that we dont have. Im glad this bill didnt pass, we cannot afford it. The govt cant keep supporting everyone, everyday. Get out, take a low paying job, but take a job.

Where do you all suppose the money to continue the handouts will come from? Let me guess, "Tax the rich"! HA, you people are jokes

  • Republicans are not pro-suffering, nor pro-jobless. They only care about the rich.

  • Neither party could give a rats-ass about America's unemployed, all these clowns, need to go the way of the Dinosaur. They flatly refuse to vote the will of the American people, to me it's a form of treason, this country is founded on a Government for the people by the people. If we continue as a Nation to hide our heads in the sand, and allow these traders to continue walking all over us. I guess maybe we deserve our fate. In my opinion we make a stand now, or become a willing slave.

  • republicans are in league with terrorists they have caused more fear and hardship in 9 weeks to so many Americans bin laden sent em a trophy award terrorist organization of the year!

  • So let me get this straight. GOP doesn't want BP to pay damages to the American people. They don't want wall street to get reformed so as to not require bailouts from the government. And they don't want unemployed Americans get continuations on their benefits until they can find jobs in a horrid economy.

This goes beyond party politics. This is just cruelty from congressional republicans. A smug, middle finger to the working class and the poor of this country.
