  • TO ALL HATERS..yes we know you guys are jealous of Rich. yes we know you probably arent good at drums and your also probably mad that a drummer in a country band is making some drummers look stupid. the points he is making are true. he is very well educated. he knows how to lay it down. he is teaching you something important.smart ass remarks are annoying. if your gonna put down good advice and a good teacher, then your ignorant and have no buisness commenting on the video.

  • I really love this style of play, and I do firmly believe that there are WAY, WAY too many drummers on youtube who are inextricably bound up with complex approaches at the expense of laying down a big, bullshit free beat that anybody can feel the one of. However, I have to say I don't get this putting the hat on the 2 and 4. Cos that's where the snare is and I simply can't hear it. I don't think the snare needs any more emphasis - especially not when it's given the pounding this guys metes out.

  • "powerful and colorful instrument..." well put!!!

  • Hey man great videos just watched a few and sub'd Many drummers just starting out would do well to "not forget" the high hat foot!

  • Is that just a regular snare stand for his tom?

  • this guy is awesome

  • i bet this guys is from jersey

  • right when you said "the boom shmack" i FREAKIN THREW UP.

  • you cock..

  • Also I must say that I totally agree with what he's talking about, the hi-hat is incredibly important for me in all my playing, obviously on 2 and 4 in jazz beats and trying to keep that constant s very important, and also whenever I am playing my ride in either rock or country or funk, i will play the hi hat with my foot on at the very least the upbeats or just playing straight 8th notes with my left foot, adds dimension to the ride part

  • all you morons who have the nerve to put Rich down don't know what you're talking about, Rich is an incredible musician, has a masters of music from North Texas, played in the One O'Clock Lab Band while he was there and is one of the most in demand session players around, not to mention he is a really nice guy too

  • When you mix anonymity with a desire to find fault in people who are actually doing something worthwhile, you get the open-to-the-public world of cyberspace commentary. Some people put their opinion out there because, like an a**hole, everyone’s got one. I try to look past things that I think are uncool in my fellow humans and be thankful for their contributions to the betterment of the planet. Rich Redmond is the real deal. He’s got plenty of 411 and - - thank God - -loves to share it.

  • my god, people are so damn picky on youtube. in my experience you just can't win on here. People will love and hate you, and think they can say any kind of nonsense and hide behind their username. Just pick up some sticks and practice, it's a better use of time than complaining about a video

  • I love the left foot, use the hi-hat all the time, it's my metronome. In jazz and in ballads I use it to play 6 over 4 patterns and other syncopated beats. Playing it on the "ands" of the groove locks in beat and creates a nice flowing feel. Check out my covers of "Let It Rain" and "Layla" for examples. Also use it as a ride such as in U2 cover of "With or Without You" toward the outro.

  • Welcome to nashville... Corny ass music... And even more Corny ass musicians.

  • hey men this guy has a nice way to explain how to use your weaker foot, it's simple, easy and functional.!!! GREAT VIDEO!!!ª

  • @thecravenator42069 He is very informative, but you are annoying . . . just my opinion though.

  • great and helpful exercises especially since I have been focusing on these lately :D

  • Fantastic video with great exercises. Definitely gonna try those.

  • I'd like to hear the kit miked up for the lessons. It'd make a hell of a difference.

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.Kind of sad to say but im one of those drummers that got lazy and never worked on my left foot.I'll definitely work on it for now on.
