  • RIP

  • Just to clarify it should read "GR RIP" - Ornette Coleman is alive and well, Robert Palmer died several years ago.

  • With all respect to Russell here he is wrong, the principle of nonfolk western music for the majority of its history is structure, not "entertainment", where jazz is more like classical in jam format. Do you not think Beethoven had intuition?

  • You seem to misunderstand what George Russell, Ornette Coleman and Robert Palmer are agreeing on -- that 3rd world countries have been more practiced in intuition as an art form and as a science than western countries. Our historical reliance on the written word, has tended to make our contributions to culture more about analytical accuracy than emotional content. I don't believe they're playing that old game of jazz versus classical music - they're all well versed in the classical idiom.

  • How about a movie about George???

  • It's about time!

  • I agree. I believe that they are referring to modern western music. This music is processed through the capitalist filter that imparts by definition a certain predictability to it. If it is not predictable, there can be no business planning around it (records & concerts). If there is no business planning, there is no investment (taxable or 501c(3)). Under western capitalist market assumptions, risk, randomness, intuition, heart are all bad words.

  • Thanks for posting. I have dabbled in LCCOTO for years and it is nice to hear the man. Not surprised-articulate and intelligent and grounded on the right side of the fence as far as art is concerned.

  • @TV3020001 Excellent synopsis!

  • That ending one-liner from Buckminster Fuller is absolutely priceless.

  • Rip

  • Well said. Inspiring.

  • I agree, I'd love to see a video on the master of the LCCTO ^_^
