It's red light from 20 LEDs (which emit light in a short range of wavelength 621-628nm), covered by a dark red filter (to cut wavelength even more), controlled in intensity by switches which turn on single or multiple LEDs. With one single LED it's not very bright but useable to have slight orientation in the darkroom. All 20 LEDs produce a decent light, under which, bounced off of the ceiling, you are able to easily read small text.

I did not yet test it under actual working conditions and it's respecting effect on photographic materials.

Oh. And I build this safelight myself.

  • Very nice! BTW, I plan on posting a video showing an excellent way to test safelights in the near future. Many of the methods recommended are not good at all.
