This is my 5th fight which took place on 11-14-08 in St.Louis, MO. The weight class was 215. I weighed in at around 206 clothed and my opponent was 215. My opponent was 2-0 at the time as Muay Thai fighter. The fight was for a vacant light heavyweight amateur title belt (Missouri or Midwest title, I cant remember).
The Fight: I knew this guy had a boxing background, so the goal was to exchange hands on the inside if possible and work leg kicks to take his size advantage away. Also, leg kicks accumulate well over 4 rounds and they set up the head kick (my favorite). The fight pretty much went exactly to game plan. He pressed heavily in the first round and some of the second. I stayed behind my jab and countered his punches with leg kicks. I worked the clinch when it presented itself and when he guarded his body I went to his legs with knees. By the end of the second, beginning of the third the leg kicks were wearing on him and he was visibly less aggressive. He began dropping his glove to block the leg kicks as well, but he was disciplined enough to get it back up there when I was throwing it high. I did land two head kicks over the course of the fight, but they only struck with the top of my foot and not the shin. I really thought by late in the third, early in the 4th I could TKO him with leg kicks, but that was a tough tough dude. I know my leg was pretty purple from his kicks, so I can only imagine was his was like.
The Wrap-Up: I won the fight and the championship belt. Although how there was a split decision out of that fight, I dont understand. That being said, I cant complain too much, I won the belt and Im 4-1. My goal for the next fight is to really work on my hand combinations to set up kicks and knockouts. I want to get back to finishing people again. But, thatll have to wait, for now Im going to enjoy my break on fighting.
Look for a new video in February!

I've been doing that quite a bit since the fight. My hands are much better than what was shown here, I just really thought I was going to get the TKO with leg kicks. After the fight when I went to talk with him his leg looked like it had a tumor. Impressive on his part to still be moving...
Check back around mid-Feb for another video.

fat-boys tend to have more resilience in receiving damage. don't be surprised. i bet his stamina was in bad shape. your kick was kinda nice because you have long legs. try to do it faster next time and it would be almost definetely a KO. so work your legs too. but iam glad to hear you worked on your hands (and i hope you still do). looking forward to your next fight from a co-athlete. btw... how much do you weigh? in kg's pls.I am Greek :P

At the time of the fight I weighed roughly 93kg and my opponent weighed 99 kg. My upcoming fight and hopefully the rest of my future fights will be at around 88kg. I definitely prefer being a big guy at 88 vs a small guy when people are at 99.
