Ekranoplanes are ships that fly near the water surface due to ground effect. The objective of this competition is the promotion of this kind of vessels that are not known for most people.

This competition has an international scope and it is initiated within the European Union based on PROMARC (Promoting Marine Research Careers) EU project that aims to promote research and innovation in marine technology between students.

The goal of the competition is to design a towed ekranoplane which will take off with a velocity lower than 3 m/s.

The ekranoplane does not need self propulsion systems or any control elements because it will be towed by the carriage of the Canal de Ensayos Hidrodinamicos of the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales (www.etsin.upm.es) of the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (www.upm.es).
