@benmacabre ::: There is a lot in the scripture that doesn't matter. Telling you it is ok to beat your slaves and kill your children not only doesn't matter, it should not be there in the first place. The book of Revelation, should anyone be able to really understand it (if it can be understood), is not necessary. We seem to get along well without that information.

@k0smon , if it didn't matter it wouldn't be in the scriptures in the first place.

The first century christians found it hard to make it to the kingdom why do we in todays world think its gonna be so easy too much false teachers around.

@rojaszela However, salvation is a character building process and doesn't mean you become an instant saint. Justification frees you from the penalty of sin (death) and sanctification frees you from the power of sin (the sinful nature). The "new man" is made stronger with God's word and prayer and the old self is to be considered crucified with Christ.

I try to be a good man, but not because I want to live forever. Just because I want to make the here & now a little better. And when I'm old I want to die. I don't think there is such a thing as a soul, but if there is I hope it dies with me. Rhe everlasting nothing is my preferred way to rest.

@MarinusCopy Everlasting life is conditional, the soul that sins will die. Eternal life would be cruel if sin were immortalized. It was the devil's idea that "ye shall not surely die". A sinless paradise (enclosure) should not be forced, that would be tyrannical.

I don't think there is an afterlife. Eternal life seems like an extremely cruel punishment anyways, so I really don't mind there isn't.
@MarinusCopy Doing good deeds won't give you eternal life and there's no such thing as an immortal soul. Goodness is a work produced in us when we are born again. We can't do good to be saved from the curse of sin and death, but when we are saved, then goodness comes naturally (rather than forced).
