Irish Girls Wake by Ronnie Taheny from her 2005 album Happathy.
Lyrics:
From the harbour side, a ferry ride
can see beyond these shores
of stone crosses and walls.
Misfits, mercenaries and missionaries,
the sacred set their sights
whilst yonder land acalls.
chorus:
So we sail away and start again
Never look behind, never look behind
Will ye find our stained and tarnished names?
Cos one of them is mine, the secret's mine.
Doctor waive their fees for remedies,
while angels kneel in wait
and naked foe are passing by.
What ungodly shame our lives have been,
the very faith that hems us in
still wonders why.
(Chorus)
So we sail away, a week to stay
standing there in line, could they read our minds?
When we find ourselves unmarried girls
and prayer is not so kind when blind's leading blind
Will we rearrange our buried page
or slowly lose our mind?
in a world that's left behind ...
its preety good

Ronnie Taheny is a gifted writer, musician, singer & performer. "Valentine's Prey" was a superbly crafted CD some years back @ the beginning of her career & deserves a re-hearing. Her material has continued to grow. Funny woman, too! Onya, RT.
