When I was a kid, maybe 6 years old, my dad always listened to this song in the auto mobile, then I still remebered this song. At that time, I just enjoyed the lythem but no I can understand the meaning of this song. This song reminds me of the period when I worked in Osaka. Cool Osaka, you guys should visit Kita-Shinchi.

Really? This is totally new to me. I do not know these great Japanese women singers have Korean origin. I really like Miyako san's songs, always filled with emotions. This song is one of my favorates.

I am a Hawaii-born Japanese and lived for 2 years in Korea teaching English. I was surprised to learn from Koreans that a few well-known Japanese singers are half-Korean. I believe that Miyako-san's father was a Korean immigrant, not her mother. Also, Misora Hibari's father was Korean. During World War 2, the Koreans were forced by authorities to change their names to Japanese-style names, so sometimes their children were not aware of their Korean background.

Miyako-san is Korean-Japanese. Her mother was taken to Japan from Korea as slave labor and, given the Japanese law of the time, was forced to take a Japanese name. Harumi's mom hid the fact that she was Korean from her due to rampant discrimination against "zainaichi kankokujin (Koreans living in Japan) until Harumi read her Japanese junior high school graduation certificate, which had her Korean name on it.

Anyway, Miyako-san has, since Hibari Misora died, been Japan's reigning enka queen.
