I feel like since Jersey Girl, Smith has been too careful. Its like he got back on the horse... but now he's too scared to gallop.

not true dude. Clerks 2 was perfect: funny, well received and profitable.
If you mean they don't feel like J&SB movies it's because they weren't meant to be [aside from Clerks 2 obviously].
I have liked them all for what they were. Zach and Miri took a few watches

he's too self conscious to really be able to create something without inhibition or fear.
I dig smodcast and watching him in interviews but as a director I wouldn't put him above brett ratner. Both are overall serviceable directors with no real distinguishable styles.
He should try to write something great instead of just making money wherever he can.

As far as i'm aware its not 100% confirmed yet but it does seem in the recent interviews i've seen that Kevin is definetely moving away from "A Couple Of Dicks" because of pressure from the studios that it isn't a marketable title. I for one don't like the newer title at all. I think he should do what Quentin did for "Inglorious Basterds" by changing the spelling of the curse word. Something like "A Couple Of Dickes". Just my 2 cents.
