My maternal grandmother's funeral, held on the 31st of January to the 2nd of February. My paternal relatives did the funerary rites for her. If anyone would like to know more about the practices of the Hakka Lar Mor, or funeral directors, please PM me on my YouTube account.
The Lar Mor, a Hakka term for funeral directors, are a semi-shamanistic class of religious practitioners much like the Hokkien Sai Kong and/or Tang Ki, that date back to ancient China, primarily the southern provinces where there is a sizeable Hakka population scattered throughout; for at least two thousand years. Their chief duties are to instruct the bereaved loved ones of a deceased individual in the proper rites & ceremonies required to send the soul off properly as well as invoking the names of various gods & goddesses involved in their practice. When not conducting funerary rites, they also undertake certain "community services", ranging from the annual ritual prayers held on the second dawn of the Lunar New Year to dispel malevolent spirits & demonic forces to functioning as mediums by allowing the gods to possess them in aiding the queries & requests of ordinary people, much like their Hokkien counterparts.
