The answer is simple: the tension between left and right is there because these two blocks have different agendas and therefore opposing goals. This creates a healthy democratic climate of debate (something you seem to oppose by implying that tensions, i.e. differences of opinion, are something seemingly wrong). And to say that the world is globalized just because we have WTO and UN is also imbecillic - the world has rarely been as protectionistic as now (Bush has, more than any other president, supported protectionism and domestic markets).
