Demonstration of how to drain the water from a coconut and then break it open and eat the meat. Now I use a corkscrew instead of the hammer and screwdriver. Also note that the knife I was using in this video was not a good knife to use. It was a bread knife but a shorter and sturdier chopping knife worked much better. And in another video I watched, he used a grapefruit knife that worked well.

Also, I mentioned pounding the screwdriver into one of the 3 small brown holes. I've also since learned that one of the holes is always softer than the other two, so try to find the soft one.

The hilarious SNL "threw it on the ground" video that I reference in my video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAYL5H46QnQ

  • i opened mine, and the meat easily separated from the shell and there are mooshy parts, does that mean it's bad?

  • @chargerfish1 the meat in a green coconut, meaning a young fresh one, is softer. The kind i have in my video is not a green coconut though, its an older one. So if the outside of your coconut looked like mine, and/or if the mooshy parts have brown spots on them, then i would think it has gone bad

  • Nice Shonen Knife plug!

  • @supremenothing1 Awesome, I'm glad that there are some other Shonen Knife loving coconut eaters out there!

  • @MisterEricB Can you not just put a straw in that hole and drink it raw. I want to do it like in the crtoons, nxt to a beach in a lawn chair or whatever it is. Can you please tell me if it is safe or not? Thanks

  • @firetigerlion I think if you buy it at a good grocery store and open it soon after you buy it, then you can be confident enough that its fresh to do that. I've had coconuts that I've opened that were rotten, the meat was turning brown on the inside. But in one case when it was rotten, I think it was because I kept it for weeks after I bought it before I opened it, and in another case I bought it for cheap at a hardware store. That should have been a big warning sign.
