This video comes from a longer sample here on You Tube. I tried to make the sound a bit clearer and louder. Jackie Wilson was such an amazing singer/entertainer: rock, r&b, soul and when we were stuck with no talents like Fabian on American Bandstand, if Jackie Wilson was on Ed Sullivan or Shindig, I'd watch. ,
For the two years Shindig! was on (64&65) it was unique: the host Jimmy O'Neill was a major LA DJ on KRLA , KHJ and KFWB among others and produced the show, so credit to him . The Shindig backing band heard here was pretty special, as well. From Glen Campbell on guitar to Chuck Blackwell (drums), Billy Preston ( Hammond B3 organ I think) , the lead guitarist for both Elvis and Ricky Nelson, James Burton, Delaney Bramlett, and as you'll hear, an awesome bass player in Larry Knechtel. Major record producer Russ Titleman also played rhythm guitar and many others including drummers Richie Frost, Paul Humphreys and pianist Leon Russell. The horn section kicked ass as well: not sure who all was in it, except for two of my music buddies I had recorded with, Bob Crosby on tenor and maybe baritone sax and the great Jay Daversa on trumpet.
Lots of talent on that show including a high school friend and future movie star, Teri Garr as one of the Shindig dancers
The horn section In The Shindig Band was Jay Migliori, Dick "Slyde" Hyde, Jim Horn, Bud Brisbois
