the situation in yangon/rangoon is beyond fucked right now. my dad works for the us embassy down there and his house guard (who's a burmese local) told him that when he goes home for the night he can't even sleep because he lives next to a reformatory school that's been converted into a makeshift prison for nuns and monks and he can hear people screaming in there.

Sad but true.
Our governments are no better, US, canada, etc.
Just people in other countries, are somewhat spoiled, and seem to think freedom is a choice of what TV show they can watch.

Russia and China joined together in a rare double veto Friday to block a Burma resolution put forward by the United States and Britain. The measure would have called on Burma's military government to stop persecution of political opponents and minority groups.
