This film follows Segunda Quimbamba, a Jersey City based percussion and dance ensemble. Segunda Quimbamba performs Puerto Rican drum music, la Bomba and la Plena. In the fall of 2008 the group opened the largest festival of Puerto Rican drum music in the world, BomPlenazo. Hostos Community College hosts this festival every two years on their campus in the Bronx. Additionally, group leaders husband and wife Juan Cartagena and Nanette Hernandez work with community based initiatives throughout New Jersey. Segunda Quimbamba integrates riveting original performances with a tireless dedication to the community. From workshops to BomPlenazo, Mi Bomba, Tu Bomba engages the personal experience within Segunda Quimbamba.
