May 21, 2011 Homily for the 5th Sunday of Easter. Celibacy is a sign of heaven and is under attack. The liberal news media would try to make us think that catholic priests typify or exemplify the identity of pedophilia, yet the fewest cases for this are in the catholic religion and catholic priests, yet who is the most targeted? This is because, as George Weigel has pointed out, that celibate priests ought to be held to a higher standard than married protestant clergy, even if they have half as many reported cases. They should have 0% cases.
What is celibacy? It is a witness of Jesus Christ, who is himself the celibate King for the sake of the Kingdom (Mt 19:10). Yet this is given to those who can receive it. Blessed Pope John Paul II pointed out that many cannot understand it, i.e. cannot receive it, but the Holy Spirit will always call men to the altar to serve with the charism of celibacy.
