I know this is a crappy Jeepy, but compare it to a Honda CR-V or a Toyota Rav-4, then it starts to make sense.

WHICH IS BETTER OFF ROAD PATRIOT OR COMPASS

I just bought a 2010 Jeep Compass, and yeah I knew going into it that the Compass is not meant for off road driving, and that the Patriot would do a better job, but the Compass gets 23/28 mpg (while the Patriot gets 20/22 mpg) and I anticipate sky high gas prices in 2011 so, it's the best choice if you need 4wd but want the best gas mileage possible too

I drive a 2010 compass 4x4 and I love it to death. I drive it to school and work and its just fine in snow and ice. I avent tried off road yet but then again it wasnt designed for it so i probably wont lol
