  • Actually what causes running bamboo are runners which are horizontal stems. The roots aren't responsible for the formation of new bamboo.

  • I use the words roots and rhizomes interchangably to get my point across. I am not a scientist, just trying to teach people the difference between clumping and running. I also say canes instead of culms, when refering to live growing bamboo. Same thing, just getting my point across. thanks

  • I wanna grow clumpers so I can let them get tall, then chopem down with my sword! =D

  • Some running bamboos will grow as clumpers in my area since the growing season isn't long enough for rhizomes to spread.
