Makes me think about myself, this country has no place for me anymore. My days are passed. One day you'll hear an old coyote off in the distance, it'll be me.

<3 I remember listening to a tape of this in our old 75 Dodge pick up in Tucumcari, NM. :) Great way to grow up. Even in the 90's this was still a cool song. It still is today.

Say what you please about Treadwell, Crazy, Weirdo, Naive Liberal Environmentalist, whatever you want to call him. One thing you can't take away from him is the fact that he lasted 13 years with the bears. I had a buddy who sky dived for 15 years, over 1000 dives, he ran out of luck and made a big dent in the turf...Now jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is crazy to me. I could take you to a neighborhood in east L.A. where you wouldn't last two days, let alone 13 years...I love the song!

This song is the closing song in this documentary about Timothy Treadwell who lived among the grizzly's and died as the result of their attack. Kool story and sad. He just wanted to help and had passion doing it.

Nicely put. I wouldn't have been able to say it without calling Treadwell a douchebag. However, it is how I learned about this song.

There wasn't good context for this song in that Treadwell documentary (crazy urban naive weirdo) but at least it gave the song exposure.

When you look beyond the nostalgia in this song, the two main reasons for so many things being "gone" are human population growth and technology, neither of which is being reigned in like it should be.
The old country and various animal species have literally been crowded to death, but mindless people call it "progress." For example, housing-starts are constantly eating up open space and that's been a benchmark of the economy for decades.
