A "canon" (for those who do not know) is the name for a piece of music that is based on the constant repetition of the same series of chords (in this case, it's eight chords). Slowly more music is added as the chords repeat, building and moving the piece forward.

I don't know how or when Pachelbel's canon became associated with the holidays, but it has, and (since composers like to say it in song) I thought it would be a great way to send out my holiday wish for everyone in the YouTube community. In the first part of this improvisational version, I try to get the essence (loosely based) of the original and in the second half I change the rhythm a bit and add my own melody (using the same repeating chords) in the same way that I'm encouraging you in my holiday wish to add your own unique melody to the repetitive roles you play in life.

My holiday blessing for all who read this:
REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE YOUR GREATEST GIFT!! ...YOU... YOU ARE WONDERFUL AND UNIQUE. YOUR SMILE, YOUR LAUGHTER, YOUR GENEROSITY, YOUR TALENT, YOUR TIME.

PUT ALL OF YOU IN ALL YOU DO AND YOU WILL BE YOUR GREATEST GIFT TO OTHERS.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

-Duke

For a traditional piano arrangement of this piece, listen to YouTube's "jonhing" who plays it wonderfully, and to "KyleLandry" who does a splendid version of George Winston's arrangement. Both gentlemen are wonderful musicians and worthy of your subscriptions.

I just lol'd SOOO hard at your idiocy.

1: What does this song have ANYTHING to do with religion?

2: Why do you feel the need to preach bullshit on this video.

    3: Mozart? MOZART?! Seriously... Mozart.

The first word of the name of the song is the composer. Pachelbel. Not Mozart. Fact.

  • Canon is such a nice and easy piece to improvise with :D

Really great playing. And wow! Ten keys apart easily lol

  • @EIDLo What does this have to do with a religion? Well, Pachelbel was a deeply religious man who often worked for the church, so there's that. @JesusChristRulesYOU is still a douche though.

  • @JesusChristRulesYOU Jeez, it's Christians like you who give other Christians a bad rep. Calm your Bible-pushing tits.

  • Kyle Landry. Look him up. (on youtube)

  • @JesusChristRulesYOU Wow.. You're a fucking retard.

  • I like your version alot. !!! Keep it up. Greetings from Switzerland

  • Piano's a lil' bit outta tune (:

  • Also, much to my annoyance, the description of what a canon is (in the video description section) is COMPLETELY wrong. it's well played, fine, but its not cool that the musical information on the piece is misleading.

    FYI:

a canon is NOT a piece based on the repetition of the same chords. That's a GROUND BASS or OSTINATO.

  • @BloodReverence The clue is in the word though. A song, must be sung, and a piece must be played. And yes, words do change, language does change, but the meaning of the word hasn't changed, people have just gotten more ignorant. So surely, "accepting" ignorance is a step in the wrong direction.

  • @Iceberg211989 Im,,, pretty sure he lost
