Hi I just got an minature american eskimo and I want to start Homemade dog food for her. she refuses to eat kibble she is a year and a half. I was wondering do you give them any vitamins?
-
you can also cook it all in pressure cooker and that will make the bones soft enuf for the dogs to eat for the calcium.
-
you think like me,. glad you poinred out those drumstick bones..
-
chicken bones make most dogs very sick and the bones are very pointy and dangerous...
-
And why don't you add something to make sure they get calcium?
Like eggshells, raw bones, goat milk or cheese.

Can you make a large ammount and freeze it?

@KatCountry1033Girl - Yes. We freeze half of our batch since it is more than the dogs can eat before it spoils. 3 days in the fridge is OK. a couple of months in the freezer is OK.

I have read when doing this is is important to give the bone to the dog as well. Could they eat this every day? Do you have any other meal ideas? What kind of chicken is that? What other meats could you use? I have a cocker spaniel that is allergic to chicken. Could a blender be used in place of the food processor?

@KatCountry1033Girl - The danger of giving the dogs the chicken bones is that bones splinter and can get stuck in your dog's throat. That is why you include the bones when you boil the broth. The nutrition from the bones goes into the broth. I have heard that onions, tomatoes, potatoes and nightshade family are not good for dogs. Will need to verify that. Sweet potatoes are good, as are broccoli, zucchini, carrots, celery, etc.
