@jellybean2423 Your comments made me laugh. Not in a derogatory manner but the fact that you call us sick, although we are simply at peace with the fact that for others to live, something else had to die. This is true for all food, not just fish and meat, and quite frankly, if you have the balls to eat it, you should then have the balls to kill it.
There is nothing sick about it. It is perfectly natural and happens been a part of the natural order for millions of years.

Seems I'm very much in the minority, but I like Jody.
Experiencing the killing or planting of ingredients teaches you to respect the ingredient. That is, it teaches you to not take the ingredients for granted, to prepare and cook them well when making a dish, and not to waste anything. Further it gives one appreciation and insight into the work and dedication of butchers, farmers, and other producers and preparers of raw ingredients. Essential education for people who are truly interested in cooking.
