PLEASE READ,
I NO LONGER OWN THIS VID-CAM

I bought it and used it for ONE weekend and then sent it back,
I now have the SONY DCR SR290E which I will get a comparison done soon, so PLEASE do not message me asking about the features of this as I wouldn't know, thank you

A couple of side by side videos showing the comparison between a MiniDV and a Digital Camdorder

The first clip is from the MiniDV Sony DCR-HC27E and the second is from the Canon FS100, which stores the image on an SD Card

Let me kow what you think.....

  • 1-you captured from diferent positions..

2-the sound on Sony is better..

  • I dont know how you can sat different positions, both cmareas were sat touching each other on one gate post.... Lol

  • should have kept the canon. i hate those tapes! the canon picture was much better but the sound was about the same.

  • I went for the Sony SR290E in the end, another HDD camera

  • can you edit the canon fs100 videos in windows movie maker? or does the canon fs100 record in a wierd file format?

  • If you take the card and transfer the images onto the computer that way, then yes. Thats the way I did this video

  • the canon is a lot better then the sony think.

  • here is what you do - open this video up in two windows. one you play from the start and in the other window cue the clip from where the cannon starts up... and then -you can see the difference.

actually i did have the sony hc27 for two years, it was brilliant. very sturdy and reliable....but i just got my cannon and it kicks serious arse!! i was always a fan of miniDVs but now SD cards rule ..cheers

  • Canon look better with image quality and lighting looks better.

  • the canon is better in just about every way other than sound but because it has a mic jack that doesn't matter (as long as you have an extra $80).

also in case anyone is wondering editing with the canon is a little annoying because it's a compressed mpeg2. Meaning that stuff that doesn't support mpeg2 (imovie, final cut express, and older versions of windows movie maker) won't work.

  • The Canon is better, and that is because there is a little difference in technologies. I still have a working Canon V500 8mm Camcorder. They were good in their times, but now it's the complete digital era.

So the images in your comparison looks more sharper on Canon, with more vivid colours, and good white balance. I didn't notice much sound difference, so that does not count for a personal use camera.

I see you bought a Sony HDD camera. That's good; hdd speed is higher than SD card speed.

  • Canon has better colors.Sony has little bit better sound.I would chose Canon

  • i like canon a LOT better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the difference in picture quality is really evident if you watch the cows running in both videos

  • at the time it was a decent camera but im getting another one soon mines just broke and i've sent it to cannon. Hopefully they will replace it so its new and then i can sell it for a decent price the zoom on this camera is great so don't doubt it!

  • I liked both of them, but the Canon ruled the day.. Thanks for sharing..

  • The Canon has more detail, could not make out the animals in the field on the Sony. The sony was smoother, the train had a more jerky movement on the Canon. Sound quality was similar, possibly the Canon picked up more detail in the sound of the train wheels. The color was brighter on the Canon, but since I was not there seeing the scenery in person, can't say which was more accurate. Loved the old steam engine video
