Developing Number Sense in Preschool and Kindergarten with Ladybugs

http://www.kidnexions.com Elementary Mathematics Specialist, Karyn Hodgens, shares a fun project that can be done with preschoolers through first graders* that reinforces beginning number concepts.

Using their own fingerprints as the main attraction, students create three cute ladybugs on their "canvas". They then add dots to their ladybugs and count the total number of dots.

*This project is super easy to adapt to second and third grade. Instead of having students count the total number of dots, have them put the same number of dots on each ladybug and write the corresponding multiplication problem. Ex: 3 (ladybugs) x 6 dots = 18 dots all together.
