This conversation needs to be had because too many times when gender issues are brought up, and there's criticism of the status quo (I.e.: boys should be this way and girls that way), the critic is accused of being politically correct. This simplistic notion closes down the conversation. The truth of that matter, as Ms. Chin alluded, is that sexuality is a messy thing and the more we try to force people to live up to a certain sexual position or category is the more pain we'll inflict.
The matter is not so much a matter of where to place gender definitions. The problem is in organizing a fair competition.
