GYSD in Brazil - Global Youth Service Day in Brazil

On april 17th 2011 in the community of peace Alagado da Suzana, where Service For Peace Brazil has a CDD Community Driven Development, working together with the community to help them to have a better quality of live. Inspired by the Disney Grants who offered the support to this event and also with the partnership of the local community leadership as the GAMA SHOPPING (SHOPPING MALL OF GAMA), lead by the ex-mayor Mr. Antonio Donizete Andrade who donate part of the fund to buy the tools, the SUPERMERCADO DIAMANTE (DIAMONT SUPERMARKET), lead by Mr. Manoel Farina, president of the Commercial Association of Gama who donate also part of the fund to organize the event, The UNIÃO PLANETARIA (PLANETARY UNION), lead by Dr. Ulisses Riedel who helped to organize the event, the MOVIMENTO NÓS PODEMOS BRASÍLIA (BRASILIA'S WE CAN MOVEMENT) movement that SERVICE FOR PEACE is part and is help to develop together with the United Nations, General Secretary of the Presidency of Brazil, Bank of Brazil, Planetary Union and many other organizations who seek to achieve the Millennium Development Goals the MDG's, movement that is organizing many events, also we had the participation and support of the MOVIMENTO BRASIL SEM POBREZA (BRAZIL WITHOUT POVERTY MOVEMENT) that is lead by the Planetary Union and with the help and support of SERVICE FOR PEACE BRAZIL, this movement will continue the efforts to build sustainable communities and will continue giving funds, ideas and knowledge for those actions and projects. Also SERVICE FOR PEACE BRAZIL is part of the GLOBAL PEACE CONNECT who gave the idea and inspiration of making the communities of peace in CDDs (COMMUNITY DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT) and is giving support to many projects all over the world in Partnership with the GLOBAL PEACE FESTIVAL FOUNDATION.
The children of the community received many tools to start a community organic vegetable garden, where they also will have medicinal plants to make natural medicine to the community.
The children will help their parents and will be responsible to take care of the vegetable garden, they were so happy for this new mission for them, as SERVICE FOR PEACE VOLUNTEERS and this project is starting in the GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY, we apply for the DISNEY GRANTS and we were approved, but because of a problem in our email we did not make all the arrangements to receive the fund, but we could got the fund to start with some tools, we still have to get more fund to continue to support this project and we are very greatfull to Disney to approve our project and we look forward to be partner with them in this project and other ongoing projects with the children of the community of peace Alagado da Suzana, which has a lots of needs and are still in the poverty line, we hope to make this community sustainable and that this children can have a better future and help their parents who are in majority illiterate and in a very fragile economic situation.
SERVICE FOR PEACE BRAZIL is working with this community since the GLOBAL PEACE FESTIVAL 2008 when we adopt this community has a community of peace and we manage to organize in 2009 a GLOBAL PEACE MAKERS PROGRAM where young university students from the United States with local volunteers came to Brazil and working as volunteers to organize a community library and an internet center to the children, with the partnership with the American Embassy who donate many books to the library and many other partners as the UNDP who gave a lecture about the MDG's to the American Volunteers showing the model that we are applying in Brazil which is making partnership with all social actors, as government, NGO's, business, community leaders and everyone who wants to help.
Also the volunteers from the United States gave to the children Guitars donated by GIBSON and with that the children could have guitar classes.
The event was very successful and it was just a start of this new project of the making a Vegetable Community Garden that will be lead by the children.

Este projeto ocorre em uma comunidade de paz onde já atuamos desde 2008 quando fizemos um trabalho voluntario com o grupo do GPF, os jovens vieram e fizeram uma limpeza e ajeitaram o centro comuntario. Já fizemos varios projetos na comunidade e construimos uma biblioteca comunitaria e um telecentro comunitario, como la é uma area rural o que não falta é espaço, e eles ja tinham um espaço reservado para horta. O Movimento Brasil sem pobreza esta ajudando e o SFP tambem.

Eu semprei sonhei deste tipo de projeto pelo Brasil, em vez de distribuir cestas basicas ou de abrir restaurante 1R$ e mil vez melhor produzir o alimento e capacitar a populacoa a sair da pobreza....

Gostaria de ter mais informacao a respeito do Projeto "Vegetable Comunity Garden" especialmente como conseguir o terreno?

Depois quem se responsabiliza para capacitar e acompanhar as criancas ate conseguir ver os frutos e a producao de legumes?
