Is there a better 'brown sound' pedal? Well, if there is, I have yet to try it. Brian Wampler is the king of dirt pedals and here's another reason why. One of his earliest and still most popular pedals, the Pinnacle now features an inner trim pot for extra volume should you need it.

More from Brian Wampler:

"There are four knobs on this pedal, a footswitch (for on/off), a footswitch for a gain boost, and one toggle switch that adds bright presence or 'highs' boosted. The bright switch is great for those amps that aren't crispy clear in the high end, such as a Marshall JCM800 or the Mesa Boogie amps for example.

The settings of the knobs affect each channel. There is a 'drive' knob, which controls the amount of overdrive or distortion, a 'contour' knob which gives you many more EQ options -- turn it all the way clockwise to remove much of the mid frequencies, about 50% is a very rounded warm midrange, and 25% and lower will add as much midrange and make it as warm as possible. This control is interactive with the bright on/off switch however.

The tone control will remove highs for a silky smooth tone. The volume is self-explanatory of course. The pedal basically emulates the way a tube compresses and clips the guitar signal.

There is a trim pot inside that is set to to the value of the original Pinnacle 2 pedal. Should you need more output volume, you can turn this trim pot and the last stage will increase the volume."

Rock on.

Recorded with a Music Man Axis through to the clean channel of my Laney VC50.

  • @slugpumper1 Doh! Sorry Mrs Slugpumper!

  • Hey Brett, I own Pinnacle 2 and I think this Pinnacle Reissue sounds different. Better? Can you test both pedals?

  • @Perikado A/B on the board for you. Could a couple of weeks, though. I have way too much to get through at the moment. Stick with me and remind me if you don't see it by the end of November. :) Cheers.

  • hey burger man, i have a blackstar artesian 15, guitar=strat. i have an mxr distortion that i picked up cheap and an mxr gt-od both quite good pedals in ther eour respects, but that can sonud a bit harsh and trebly and grainy , what would you sugest ? basicaly i want a pedal that will drivewith a nice heavy bluesy overdrive and and then one that will kick it in to a heavy thick saturated distortion. any suggestions as too a 2 pedal or one pedal combo to do this?

  • Hey Brett, received my Pinnacle 2 LTD today, IT'S AMAZING!!!! Thanks for the heads up, vids and advise. I also got the Hot Wired and that's just as you described. extremely versatile. Thanks again.

  • I've been listening to clip after clip of pedal distortion. I don't think any emulate real amp distortion. Whenever someone palm mutes, the notes are NOT tight and they get flubby and tubby sounding. Just like in this demo. the muting in the Full Bug riff, it's messy and responds like a fuzz pedal, because the pedal can't keep it tight and percussive like the tone actually is on record. I want to find a good pedal that can do a great rock tone into a clean amp.

  • Ok Brett, take it easy!!! I am testing Wampler Pinnacle, Superplextortion, Tripple Wreck and Plexidrive with differents guitars and amps, but I haven't got Plextortion pedal yet.

  • Hello there,

When is this pinnacle LTD came out, because pedal housing graphic is different?

Is it different than other pinnacle LTD?
